In Search of Cabo Rojo Church Books 1779 – 1861
Many are looking for digitized records containing the Cabo Rojo Church books that are not available online. Unfortunately, not all churches throughout the Caribbean were filmed which proves difficult for the genealogist seeking to find information. However, knowing where else to look is very critical, and hoping this post will help many.
While I have remained silent about the source for Cabo Rojo, it was done as I was mainly concerned at the beginning with providing free resources that were easily obtainable online. Now that some years have gone by, I decided to add content that may have some cost involved. We now arrive to discussing Cabo Rojo church records which are not free but the cost is minimal when compared to all the other benefits that come with it.
Without delay, let’s start with a disclaimer to say that I am a paying member of the long-running Puerto Rican genealogical society that I’m going to discuss in this post. It has existed for 30 years on the island of Puerto Rico and has members across the globe; Sociedad Puertorriqueña de Genealogía (SPG). The SPG membership for an individual is $50 and it comes with two annual magazines that contain articles on many of the lines people descend from. I have mentioned it in the past but never mentioned church records they have indexed.
The SPG publishes many books that benefit researchers that are available for purchase. Books prices depend upon if you are a member or not as the pricing for non-members is slightly higher. Most members take advantage of the available publications as members are aware that once the inventory of books is finished, books are considered out of print, and obtaining a copy becomes a challenge as most people are not willing to part with their copies.
When it comes to Cabo Rojo, it turns out that the SPG has some transcribed church books on their website. Note that while I do provide the links below, access is only provided to paying members.

I have tried to look at the books listed above but it states “can’t be found” Do you have any idea why?

Hi I had to update the post. I actually helped the SPG redesign their website so it isn’t accessible via links anymore. You will have to become a member first. Then once you become a member, which won’t start until 1/1/2023 because membership is done for this year, you can then login as a member and be able to view the files as there will be additional pages available to view as a member.
Are these church books all there is left for Cabo Rojo or is it only what the SPG has transcribed?
Are all of these books available for SPG members online?
