Dominican Military Service Records
One of the most frustrating places to research is the Dominican Republic. Why? The lack of digitized records available. In addition, the country is not serious about digitizing and preserving records. Many of these books sit in humid buildings with no air conditioning. Some have attempted to share content but it seems rare to see images of books from the island like we see in Puerto Rico. Then we have books that are missing. When we look at what we have available when it comes Dominican military service records, we have a path to investigate.
The military service records available for this article covers the years of 1844 to 1865. Therefore these are military men who fought for independence and maintained it in Dominican Republic. The Dominican author of the book is well known, Emilio Rodriguez Demorizi. The name of his two books are “Hojas de Servicios del Ejército Dominicano“. The two volumes contain different content and different names so it pays to review both books.
Military Service Volumes
So to begin, Volume 1 has over 425 pages and begins with image 307 and continue until image 530. However, before you start looking at images, there is an index included in this book. To access the index, navigate to image 522 where you can locate the individual who served in the military. This books is actually a great resource to start investigating men who served between 1844 and 1865.
Then we have Volume 2. This volume contains more than 545 pages which begins on image 130 and continues to image 419. There is also an index for this book and it starts on image 405.
Currently these are the only books available by this author. Hopefully we will see more content released in the near future as many seek information.
