Villalba is a younger municipality when compared to others on the island of Puerto Rico, as it was formed in 1917. Villalba was once a part of Ponce until 1823 when it became a part of Juana Diaz and then was split off in the 19th century into Villalba Arriba and Villalba Abajo.1

It is critical for a novice or experienced researcher to know this as it will significantly assist in knowing where to look when trying to locate these ancestors. As a side note about this website, at the time of this publication, Ponce records are available. The Juana Diaz records will be published next.
