That quote couldn’t ring more true when we see the dedication of volunteers like Salli Mayer Aponte, a cousin reaching all the way from Japan to help Puerto Rican families find their roots.
Indeed, Salli has contributed a remarkable collection of transcribed records from Caguas, Puerto Rico — and what makes her effort even more impressive is that she openly admits Spanish is not her strongest language. Even so, she refused to let that stop her. In fact, her determination to help others connect with their Puerto Rican ancestors is what makes her contribution so meaningful and inspiring.
Because of volunteers like Salli, this post is the first in a series highlighting the incredible people who dedicate their time to transcribing and sharing genealogical records from Puerto Rico. As a result, these records have become an invaluable resource for anyone researching Puerto Rican ancestry, family history, or heritage.
With that said, please keep in mind that transcriptions may occasionally vary. Since interpreting historical records is a human process, it is naturally open to some differences in interpretation. Nevertheless, we are grateful for every contribution made.
