Josef Vicente Arroyo de Jesus – Born Free from Slavery in 1785

Another blogpost while sitting at the airport, had to add the image to this post.

Josef Vicente Arroyo de Jesus baptism record can be found in Book 1, Folio 58, and is the 336th entry at the San Matheo Apostle Roman Catholic Church located in Santurce but the area was known as Cangrejos at the time of his baptism.

Josef Vicente was born a freed black child as pointed out in the record as his parents were also free blacks.  His parent’s names are Julian de la Cruz Arroyo and Luisa de Jesus.  They are listed as being from the town in the record.

Josef Vicente was 15 days old when baptized on February 5, 1785.  This makes his birth on January 22, 1785.  I’m providing the image below for anyone who descends from him or his parents.  This book contains many freed black couples baptizing their children in Cangrejos and will add them to the blog.
