While writing another post, I realized that I never covered Maunabo digitized church records. It would appear that I accidentally skipped over this town. So, we can thank the Caguas Archdiocese as they made it possible to have the Maunabo digitized church records online.

Maunabo is a town located northeast of Patillas and south of Yabucoa. In addition, Maunabo established itself as a town in 1799. The town’s name derives from a river that the indigenous people of the island named Manatuabón. Finally, Maunabo has surrounding high mountains on two sides with peaks named Pico Hutton on Sierra Guardarraya, Cerro Santa Elena, Cerro Santa Elena, and Cerro de la Pandura.

Known for its seclusion from other towns in the region, Maunabo still holds onto its colonial past.

The church books have missing volumes but it does not mean that other books do not exist.

Marriage Books

The marriage books start in 1802 which makes that books 1 in the series since the town was founded in 1799. Hence, you should be able to find older records. However, the series of marriage books are also in bad condition.

At this present time, I believe that this was the last town that I had to add to the website. Unfortunately, the church books for this town are in bad condition. Therefore, I hope you have a great pair of glasses or larger monitor.
