The Aleman surname in the eastern part of Puerto Rico initially started with Cristobal Aleman Naranjo. Cristobal eventually arrived from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. In fact, the Canary Islands is located off the coast of Northern Africa but a part of Spain. Ultimately, many with the surname arrived in Puerto Rico and settled. As a result of settling in Puerto Rico, Cristobal married Juana de la Cruz de Leon de Burgos.  Finally, Cristobal and Juana de la Cruz had 5 children. Their names are:

  • Maria de la Nieves in 1809
  • Manuela de la Encarnacion (1811)
  • Domingo (1814)
  • Ana (1816)
  • Isabel (1819).

Cristobal passed away in 1820 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
